Photoshoot

The balance of shadows, sharp and soft light work well together as the angle of the light has created areas which stand out more to create a higher amount of contrast. I decided to edit this to black and white to exaggerate the softness of the light and make the shadows more vibrant and focal point of the image. This was taken with a single light so I could really control the shadows and the strength of the highlights on the areas that pick them up. The composition of this image is more of a strength to really make you look into the shadows and to see what it actually is, this composition worked really well, with the plain white background.

This image I was looking to replicate one of the artists images by using layering on Photoshop and moving the face slightly to the left and lowering the opacity and with a rubber tool to rub out around the collar bones and hair to make the image really stand out with the strengths of the contrasting highlights, soft light and shadows, from the different textures in the hair to the soft appeal on the cheek. The layering worked really well giving it another dimension and story to the image, as there are always two sides to a person but one is more vibrant and the other can be left behind as that isn’t their confident side, from pressure they don’t feel they can express it, this is what this image shows.

Using a more unusual part of the human body, I had a skinnier model to replicate the soft curves from the belly button to the bones on the hips and rib cage, there are various shadows showing from this and emphasising the amount they stand out from the rest of the body. using a single light from underneath to the right to show the textures of the skin, detailed precisely by using manual to the flash didn’t come up but changing the focus on the camera to really pick up on the grains of skin near the hip bone. Decreasing the highlights on Photoshop also helped with the detail to really make it stand out and not be over powered by the lighting.
